Software Support and Known
Issues
Save time -
check the program Help file! |
|
| User Responsibility ... |
- The user is expected be
familiar with
file name conventions, Folders/Directories and how to navigate the
computer's HDD in order to locate and manipulate files.
- Since support for this software is limited, you are urged to
parse the Help file if the program doesn't do what you expected.
To do
so, hit the F1 key while the program
is loaded. A detailed Help file is installed in the folder/directory
where you installed the program. |

| GimmeFreeData
v1.6 ... |
- You can have no more than 125
symbols/tickers in each download list. You will have trouble if you try
to defeat this limitation.
- You can usually fetch up to 10-years of daily data for securities
traded on US exchanges. Other exchanges allow only 1-year of
data to be retrieved regardless of the Start Date you select, and a few
offer only a day or two of daily data.
- Selecting data starting dates near January 1st will often result in
no data
received from YAHOO. The work around is move the starting date way
from January 1st until you get something. Feb 2nd works reliably.
- How the Date values are formatted when data is saved is determined by
your M$ Windows system settings. Change the Short Date format via
Control Panel's Regional Settings
Dialog if you wish.
- It’s your responsibility to provide the proper symbol/ticker for each
security desired. YAHOO requires symbols/tickers that are different
from MSN. You'll have to experiment to determine which symbol/ticker
format gives you the data you need.
- With YAHOO, Australian securities have ‘.ax’ on the end of each
symbol/ticker (e.g. AXA.AX). For the
Canadian market, add ‘.to’ on the end of each symbol/ticker (e.g.
WRM.TO). For Pink Sheet stocks, add '.pk' on the end of the desired
symbol/ticker (e.g. RVWS.PK). Market Indices don’t require the suffix,
but they do need the ‘^’
prefix. Visit Yahoo
Exchange List for the characters
apropos for the market/exchange desired.
- With MSN, Australian securities have 'au:' before the symbol/ticker
(e.g. AU:AXA). For the Canadian market add 'ca:' before the
symbol/ticker (e.g. CA:WRM). Market Indices use the '$' before the
usual symbol/Ticker (e.g. $INX). Visit MSN
Money Central as a starting point to find the proper symbols for
their data server. Note also that GimmeFreeData either strips off or
replaces any characters are illegal under M$ Windows file naming
conventions.
MSN offers currency rates. For example, use the symbol /EURUS to get
the Euro to US Dollar.

| GRAFster v5 ... |
- If you use ASCII files as your
data source, be sure to keep them in a
folder/directory that contains only ASCII data files in it you expect
to chart. Data management is the user responsibility.
- Your Windows System settings determines how Dates and Numbers are
formatted. GRAFster5 and OptionTools2 both expect the 'dot' character
as the decimal separator, not the 'comma' character. To remedy this
problem, change your number format via
Control Panel's Regional Settings Dialog.
- GRAFster v5.8.1 had a load/run error that affected only new trial
users under certain conditions. This has been fixed in v5.8.2!
So, if you had trouble get the corrected version and give it another
try.

|
| OptionTools v2 ... |
- If you've had trouble
retrieving delayed option prices, get the current program version.
- Locating the current % dividend
yield for stock Indices is not an easy
task. The CBOE no longer publishes these values, not even for their
flagship OEX. Go figure. |
